Behind The Cover Shot

Given the freezing temperatures and grey skies of the British winter, we usually have a stock American cover for the Rider Of The Year/Gear Guide issue, but after our trip to Abu Dhabi a few weeks ago, we were left with so many great photos we had to release one before the feature article in Issue 2.

The cover for the new 2010.1 issue was shot outside the Yas Marina Formula 1 circuit, with the fantastic Yas Marina Hotel lighting up the sky in the backdrop. Aaron Rathy charges the wake in the dark while Sim Bradley floats in another boat in the harbour mouth to capture the image.

Tim Royle was on hand for the photo shoot and made this little video edit which shows you the work that goes into making a cover shot.
