Relentless Wakestock 2009
Press Release:
According to NME, we can expect some ‘Swaggering, big hearted rock n’ roll mischief’ from our latest addition to the line-up THE TWANG. We’re stoked they’re joining our very international bill of bands & DJ’s next weekend. This global feel is continued with a whole host of the world’s best wakeboarders competing for the Relentless Wakestock title. Read on as we tell you more about the above, and our official festival warm-up gigs hosted by Misadventures you’ll want to be a part of next week.
Midlands indie rockers THE TWANG are the latest addition to the line-up for 2009. These boys took the music scene by storm back in 2007 with their album “Love It When I Feel Like This” and singles “Wide Awake” and “Either Way.” They will return in 2009 with their second album “Jewellery Quarter” set for release at the end of July. Listen out for their new single “Barney Rubble” which is currently receiving air-play on Radio 1. These boys will be joining N*E*R*D and Super Furry Animals on the Main Stage on Saturday night. Relentless Wakestock 2009 has gone from strength to strength over the last 10 years. The event now packs a real punch on an international level attracting wakeboarders from around the globe and 2009 is no different. More international riders than ever before will travel to North Wales to compete for the prestigious title.
There will be a large Southern Hemisphere contingent including Brad Smeele who was a champ back in 2007 but just missed out on the podium last year. He will be joining us all the way from New Zealand along with fellow countryman Paul McQuire and Aussie Scotty Broom. South African Nick Burton Moore came in 8th place last year, but will be fighting for the top spot in 2009. Grom Daniel Grant is flying in from Thailand to compete for the first time for the biggest title in wakeboarding and is sure not to disappoint. Sean O’Brien will cross the Atlantic from his home in Orlando, Florida to battle it out against the best of the British including the likes of current World Champ Nick Davies, 3 times Relentless Wakestock champion Dan Nott, 2006 champion, Jonty Green and a whole entourage of up and coming youngsters after the title. They’re all looking to reclaim the podium after the Canadians and Americans dominated it last year!
It’s no different in the girl’s event too. Robbie Rendo will be flying in from Argentina to try to regain the title of Relentless Wakestock Women’s Champ following her win back in 2006 and last year at Blenheim Palace, she will be joined by European female riders including Spaniard Ana Alvarez and Belgian born Elke Venken. Aussie Kath Moore is also a hot contender following her win back in 2007 and 2nd place last year. Can she make it back to the top spot for the festival’s 10th birthday? Up at the Pool Gap on the festival site itself the international feel continues with Frenchman Kevin Calvez, Reed Watson from the USA and Ludovico Vanoli from Italy battling it out on their wakeskates as part of the Rococo Rail Tour. The stage is set and the rails are almost good to go. Let the international battle commence!
The international feel of the event continues with the line-up which this year features acts that are not only huge in the UK but are renowned internationally for their talents. N*E*R*D will play the Main Stage on the Saturday night following a stunning set on the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury over the weekend where they raised the roof. MOBY has travelled the world and played over 3,000 concerts in his career. He released his first single back in 1991 and has gone on to sell millions of albums worldwide. Stunning Swedish star AGNES will open the event with a live performance on the Friday afternoon at 3pm, flying the flag for the Scandinavians and belting out her amazing single “Release Me” which has been in the top 10 of the UK singles chart for over four weeks now. Joining these acts over the course of the weekend is Kiwi & Radio 1 legend ZANE LOWE, US based band CAROLINA LIAR, Spain’s number 1 DJ WALLY LOPEZ, SPINNERETTE featuring ex Distillers front-girl Brody Dalle and of course those famous CUBAN BROTHERS who are making the massive trip over from ….. er London!
With more international acts on the bill than ever before Relentless Wakestock 2009 is putting Wales on the map in terms of the international music scene. For many of the these acts it will be their first trip to this awesome country and the stunning beaches of Cardigan Bay, so we want the Wakestock crowds to show them just what we are made of and give them the welcome only the coolest festival audience can!
