Sunday 14th September.  Loch Stock 2008

Over 100 spectators descended on Townhill loch in Dunfermline for the very first Loch Stock wakeboard competition.  The sun was shining and the water flat , and with over 30 competitors (the most so far in a Scottish Wakeboard event) there was an electric atmosphere on the shore.

Loch Stock 2008 began with the Novice category – those with less than 1 years riding experience. The Juniors (Under 14yrs old), Open Ladies and Open Mens followed afterwards. Each rider was given 2 lengths of the Loch to complete as many tricks as possible, followed by a single 'Wildcard' trick which was to be attempted in front of the jetty – in full view of the crowd! This Wildcard trick is a mini-competition in it's own right, and the riders were not required to land their trick for their score to count.

The day ran smoothly with the boat judges and driver getting slightly sunburnt, however they were kept in good humour with a near endless supply of Go-Fast energy drink and Carrot cake!  The competition format had each rider starting and finishing at the dock in the centre of the crowd, which created a great supportive atmosphere and some spectacular viewing of the Wildcard event; some riders chose do their trick aided by the Kicker conveniently positioned in front of the crowd!

The real excitement began after a change of boats to make the wake bigger for the open categories.  We were expecting some big things, and that's exactly what we saw!  Sam Filsell was first off the dock, the first person of the day to go upside down and land it riding away with victory in the open ladies.  The men's were much more competitive with 18 contestants from all over Scotland to battle it out for both the victory of Loch Stock 2008 and the £50 cash from boardwise for the best trick of the day.  The winner, Kevin Forbes, had an exceptional run landing many inverts and spins; just that bit bigger and cleaner than the closely fought 2nd, 3rd and 4th places.

At the end of the competition, the results were as follows:

Junior

1st Ryan Buttterworth
2nd Dominic Bond
3rd Eilidh Harrower

Novice

1st Ally Beaven
2nd Callum Hepburn
3rd Kyle Millar

Open women

1st Sam filsell
2nd Jenny Makaruk
3rd Lucy Baird

Open Men

1st Kevin Forbes
2nd Scottish Stu
3rd Gordy Forsyth

Boardwise Wildcard: Adam Wright
