Relentless W'Stock Qualifier

by Matt Crowhurst
14 / 06 / 2010

On the 12th June the very first Relentless Wakestock Qualifying event took place at JBSki in Surrey, and riders from across the UK and Republic of Ireland descended on this world famous wakeboarding venue to fight it out for the remaining spaces set aside for the first day of boarding action at this year’s Relentless Wakestock in just under three weeks time.

Six spaces for the guys and 3 spaces for the girls were up for grabs. It is a true testament to the growth and attraction of Wakestock in the wakeboarding world over the past decade. Not just from becoming a WWA World Series event, and from having more riders than can fit into the main 3 day event, but also for the insane level of riding required just to get a foot in the door.

Beautiful glassy conditions, sun shining and an eager crowd heralded the start of the 2010 British boat contest scene. Two passes of the LDB Wakeschool lake behind LDB’s very own Malibu VLX Wakesetter, plus the banked rail courtesy of JBSki to play on, and our riders had everything in place to give it their best shot.

The riders to make the most of the conditions and secure their Wakestock invite were Sian Hurst, Samantha Knott and Becci Hall for the women, taking the top three spots in that order. For the top six men were Jorge Gill, Jack Hammersley, David O’Caiomh, Jack Davies, Paul Johnston and former Rail Masters Champion Louis Floyd.

With invites now confirmed it was just left to get the first, second and third place positions decided for the men and so a four man final was run with Team Ireland eventually taking away first and second through David O’Caoimh and Paul Johnston respectively and Jack Hammersley squeezing into third. Each rider takes away not only the prestige of making up the podium places at the first ever Wakestock Qualifier but also some quality neoprene goodies through Mystic Boarding.

You’ll be able to catch these guys and girls alongside the best in the world very soon when Relentless Wakestock 2010 kicks off on the 2nd July in North Wales.
