Relentless Wakestock Day-2
by Sim Bradley 04 / 07 / 2010
Saturday morning in North Wales was another scorcher, with the sun blessing us with another appearance, and a significant drop in the wind. It all kicked off with the Pro Women's final where some riders had upset and others flourished, and if I had to make an early call on the result I would pick between a certain UK export and an Aussie to take the Wakestock 2010 title.
After this it was the Pro Men's turn to ride with the qualifier before Sunday's final. As the event is now part of the WWA World Series, there are even more visiting riders from all over the world and the standard of riding was right up there for a World Series event. Phil Soven, Aaron Rathy, Andrew Adkison, Trevor Hanson, Scotty Broome, Dean Smith and a few more guys all had to qualify to earn their spot in the highly prestigious Wakestock final, and they all tried hard and rode great. For me however, the biggest news was that we have been joined by arguably the best freerider in the world, the irrepressible Mr. Randall Harris. You could sense the intimdation in the air for some of the local and UK riders with such a talent up against them, and he didn't disappoint peoples expectations going ridiculously big on everything and being the only rider in the contest doing wrapped tricks with grabs all the way around, showing that style can count when it comes to technical contest-friendly tricks.
Back on the festival site the wakeskaters had their final and the general talk around camp was of young Will Bradley's impressive performance. There will be prizes announced for Best Trick and Overall Performance on stage at the prize giving ceremony tomorrow night in front of 10,000 people, and you can watch this live (in welsh!) on TV tomorrow on S4C (Sky channel 134).
The music side was huge again with Plan B, Feeder, Maximo Park, Chase & Status, Zane Lowe, Scratch Perverts, Plastic Thumbs and Tiny Tempah all playing to enormous crowds throughout the evening. No doubt there will be even more partying tonight for most festival-goers, but the riders will all be tucked up in bed early ready to put on a great show tomorrow from 11:30am in Pwlheli Marina. Hope to see you there, but if you can't make it check out the Wakestock twitter feed by following @WakestockUK and be sure to tweet them your love back.
