Newquay Part 3

Yet again more rain - all those daft websites and forecasts that I looked at before leaving Abersoch are a load of rubbish. They told me Sun all week and we have had rain and wind. The entire pool gap nearly flew when we tried laying the liner in the launch pool, we must have resembled Richard Branson about to cross the Atlantic. The wind really is the biggest pain in the ass for any part of our sport.

Our liner for the top pool has gained about a thousand holes some of which are rather large and we wasted a great deal of time trying to fix them. The scaffolders have been in and made one of the corners higher which means we can get more water in, something which is badly needed. I still have a slight question mark running around in my head about how much water we are going to get and the drop off the rails might be quite large.

The best bit of the build is always the rails, mainly because it means the main structure is done but also it’s more fun. It’s not that great building them in the rain with power tools though, so we held out as long possible as all the local sources said the sun was on its way. Sure enough at 6pm out popped our best friend Mr Sun and we worked till dark building the first rail. It was going to be a down flat but is now just a down, as the drop would have been too high with the water level problems.

My staple diet of Pasties is awesome, just as the build team starts to feel hungry a magic man appears with bucket loads of them. I think I will be fairly over them by the time I leave Cornwall though. In the complete opposite of what happened last year we haven’t really been drunk yet! Which is a complete disgrace because it’s Boardmasters and that’s what normally happens! We tried to give it a good go by heading out to the Quiksilver party, but we hadn’t left the site till 11 and arrived at the party at 11:30, a few Jaeger bombs and beers later and we perked up a bit but certainly nothing to report home about. A group decision was made that we will save all our drinking and partying powers for the weekend. Working with a hang over sucks ass anyway!

In theory the only jobs for tomorrow are branding and one more rail. But lets see…
