Newquay Part 2

I would just like to announce my dedication to our new
website by telling you that for some daft reason I got up at six this morning
to take some pictures of our pool gap. I am attempting to write a daily web
article about the Newquay build, which is pretty easy, the problem is on the second day I forgot to take any
pictures. So basically for the sake of this article you have to pretend that
these pictures were taken last night instead of this morning.
To be honest I didn’t really forget to take any pictures I
actually didn’t have time. Monday went ridiculously well, but Tuesday was an
all together different story. On arrival in the morning, the water that was
pumping over night was full at one end of the landing pool but not even half
full at the other end. To worsen the issue the lower end was the end next to
the rails where the riders land. In general a big problem, add to it a slight
hang over and the huge stress of Newquay traffic (my pet hate is traffic and
Newquay loves it), the morning had not started well.
Its rained a lot so far and the festival site looks
extremely brown, add to this the fact that its as level as a the road out of
Newquay, the surf at Fistrial Beach, the seas in Deadliest Catch, a set of dirt
jumps or the wall paper in our 60’s décor Newquay hotel, and problems occur. This
uneven ground meant over night as we filled the pool it gathered in one end and
slightly sunk which only worsened the problem. Fifty cigarettes later and we
had a plan to fix the issue; a lovely scaffolding company are coming in Wednesday
morning to give us some support to hold some higher sides. You may want to check
back tomorrow to see the outcome.
On the major plus side we have build the entire top pool,
shield section and landing pool in two days. This means the main work left is
the rails. I will take this opportunity to thank the rather awesome skills of
my build team. The festival organisers had given us 8 workers for the week
before the event as part of our deal with them. A plus point is less cost to us
but a major downside is they could have been completely useless muppets.
Hopefully the sun will be out tomorrow to keep our power
tools happy and my camera in full swing. In theory we could be finished by Wednesday night but this is a pool gap and absolutely anything could
happen.
On a slightly strange note we found out that Ash Colvin
likes sleeping in the bath. The bonus of our poor hotel is that they don’t seem
to keep an eye on how many people we have in here. Ash turned up unannounced to
help build the pool gap and instead of taking the floor space we offered him he
took the small bath, very strange and highly amusing at the time. He wasn’t even
drunk; he actually wanted to sleep there.
Around the Pool gap we have two open air stages open going
up, the Relentless Riders Lounge, Bungee Jumps and its all looking sweet,
Groove Armada are playing and the line up is going to be fun. For all the
details about the festival you should go to their website
